Band Boosters
In the early 1960’s it was decided that Gardendale Junior High School would be made into a High School. In the school year of 1966 Spenser Shaw was hired as the band director here to build a high school band. There was very little for him to work with. The first there was no marching, the next year we only played from the stands. We had Maroon Blazers, white shirts, gray pants and black ties. The first graduation class was in 1968 and that year we had new uniforms, 4 sousaphones, marching drums, and all of the other equipment we needed to put on a half time show. Almost all of the equipment that they purchased is still in use.
The Gardendale High School Band Booster Organization is made up of parents who wish to support the students in the entire Band program. This support comes from their attendance, their participation and their efforts to raise the needed funding to provide for the band.
As a band parent, you are automatically a member of the Band Boosters. There is no charge for membership; however your participation is essential. Meetings are held the first Monday of each month (except for holidays) at 7:00 pm in the GHS band room. At the end of each meeting a name will be drawn at random from the attending members for a $25 credit to a student account. Attend as often as you can.
